The Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) revealed the winners for the 2016 Trillium Book Awards at a recent dinner ceremony held in Toronto. The Awards celebrate the quality and diversity to be found in Ontario writers and writing. Handed out since 1987, the Trillium Award gives out prizes to books in both French and English, for the best in Fiction, Poetry, and Children's Literature.
We'd like to congratulate our two members & their authors who received awards this year:
Biblioasis and Kevin Hardcastle won the English Fiction Award for Debris, a collection of stories that unflinchingly explore the lives of those who exist on the fringes of society.
Pedlar Press and Soraya Peerbaye won the English Poetry Award for Tell, a collection of poems partially based on the Reena Virk murder case which examine in part the poet's remembrances of girlhood, the unease of adolescence, and the circumstances that enable some to pass through unhurt.
