The Giller Prize, one of Canada's largest literary prizes, announced it's 2016 longlist -- 12 titles selected from a pool of 161 books submitted by 69 publishers. The longlist was decided upon by a five-person jury comprised of three Canadian writers, and one British and one Scottish writer. This year's longlist features 6 books published by independent Canadian presses and only one previous winner.
We'd like to congratulate our members and their authors who received a nomination:
Coach House Books
~ Andrew Battershill for his novel Pillow
Wolsak & Wynn
~ Susan Perly for her novel Death Valley
The shortlist will be announced September 26th and the winner will be announced at an award ceremony on November 7th. Readers will have the opportunity to see the nominees read live at three events across the country this fall: Halifax on October 14th, Vancouver on October 17th, and Toronto on November 6th.
