Now Hiring: LitDistCo, General Manager (Toronto, ON)

LitDistCo, the distribution arm of the Literary Press Group, is looking for an ambitious, self-directed, and accomplished person to fill the position of General Manager. As the sole employee of LitDistCo, the candidate must be highly organized and proficient in a variety of administrative operations.

This position is a unique opportunity for a person with some publishing experience who has a desire to further their skills and work with a varied group of publishers from coast to coast in this key area of the book industry.

Job Description/Responsibilities

LitDistCo

  1. Act as liaison, communicating between LPG client publishers, the sales manager and the warehouse.
  2. Prepare monthly reports for client publishers, including sales and returns reports, receivables, and payments and fees schedule.
  3. Regular bookkeeping, including payroll and taxes, managing and reconciling trust and operating bank accounts, preparing cash flow, income statements and budgets, monitoring receivables, and preparation for disbursements. Prepare books for annual audit and work with auditors.
  4. Develop and maintain bibliographic data for LPG client publishes and disseminate it to aggregators and customers.
  5. Provide tech support related to bibliographic data issues for LPG client publishers.
  6. Assist in setting up and training new participating publishers.
  7. Administrative duties include maintaining contracts, files and other records, and recording minutes of the meetings of the LitDistCo Board of Directors.
  8. Liaise with the Board of Directors, including the preparation of agendas and participation in governance and business planning committees.
  9. Liaise with Board of Directors to plan for growth opportunities; collect and analyze data that would assist in the preparation of such business plans.
  10. Prepare the LitDistCo annual budget in consultation with the Board of Directors and the Executive Director of the Literary Press Group.
  11. Plan and carry out regular communications to members.
  12. Represent LitDistCo and report on its activities at LPG board and members’ meetings.
  13. Carry out other duties as assigned by the LitDistCo Board of Directors.

Books in Hand

  1. Act as project manager for Books in Hand, which provides distribution to client publishers who are not members of the Literary Press Group.
  2. Act as liaison between Books in Hand client publishers and the warehouse.
  3. Assist in setting up and training new participating publishers.
  4. Prepare monthly reports for Books in Hand publishers, including sales and returns reports, receivables, and payments and fees schedule.
  5. Develop and maintain bibliographic data for Books in Hand client publishers and disseminate it to aggregators and customers.

All Lit Up

  1. Act as project manager for All Lit Up, the LPG’s online store and content platform, liaising with Literary Press Group and contractors.
  2. Prepare sales reports for All Lit Up. Maintain and regularly reconcile sales and payments databases and remit payments to publishers.

Bibliographic Data Project

  1. Act as project manager for Bibliographic Data Project, which supplies print and ebook bibliographic data to aggregators on a contract basis.

Grant Writing and Management

  1. Write grant applications, including for developments to the All Lit Up project, Bibliographic Data project and other projects and liaise with contractors to ensure compliance with developments as approved by the Department of Canadian Heritage.
  2. Develop new projects for future grant applications in consultation with the LPG staff and members.

Skills

  • Experience with bookkeeping and accounting software, Microsoft Office, Filemaker Pro, WordPress, Google Apps, project management software, and additional software is necessary.
  • Demonstrated communication/negotiation skills are required, as are exceptional organizational skills. Project management experience is a desired asset, as are database management, website management, code writing, and customer service experience.
  • Awareness of publishing industry, warehousing/logistics experience and business planning skills are also an asset.
