The Victoria Book Prize Society recently announced the nominees for the 2012 City of Victoria Butler Book Prize. The prize is awarded by the City of Victoria and Brian Butler Brothers Supplies to books of literary merit as decided by an independent jury comprised of people from the literary arts community.

Congratulations to Madeline Sonik and Anvil Press for the nomination of Afflictions and Departures, a collection of experiential essays. The book considers the turbulent and changing nature of the world of the author's childhood -- the 1950s and early 1960s.The essays are incisive and moving, leaving the reader with a sense of history as it was lived.
