Annabel Lyon, author of the much celebrated The Golden Mean, recently compiled a top 10 list of books on the ancient world for the Guardian in the United Kingdom. Lyon's criteria for her choices were books that 'subvert, surprise, challenge and please.'

In her number two spot is Dragonflies by Grant Buday, published by Biblioasis in 2008. Dragonflies follows Odysseus and the last days of the Trojan War, fleshing out myth and mystery. Lyon writes of Buday's novel, 'The great strength of Buday's novel isn't in any formal innovation or revisionism. Rather, it's the crispness, humour and beauty of the prose that make this book worth seeking out.'
