January 14, 2010. With the end of a year and the beginning of a new one, there have inevitably been many "Best of" as well as "Most Anticipated" lists from various book news sources. Our publishers have had a banner year and the momentum seems to be continuing!

Some highlights from the past year include:

Amphibian by Carla Gunn (Coach House Books). Quill and Quire named it one of their top five overlooked books of the year and the Globe and Mail named it one of their top five debut novels of the year.

Away from Everywhere by Chad Pelley (Breakwater Books). Stephen Patrick Clare, co-author of Atlantic Canada's 100 Greatest Books, named Away from Everywhere as one of his top 10 picks for 2009.

The Briss by Michael Tregebov (New Star Books). Jim Bartley, the Globe and Mail's first fiction reviewer, named it one of his top five books of 2009.

Rig: An Oral History of the Ocean Ranger Disaster by Mike Heffernen (Creative Book Publishing). Trevor J Adams, co-author of Atlantic Canada's 100 Greatest Books, named Rig as one of his top 10 picks for 2009.

What Boys Like by Amy Jones (Biblioasis). Trevor J Adams, co-author of Atlantic Canada's 100 Greatest Books, named What Boys Like as one of his top 10 picks for 2009.

Some coming attractions:

Stroll: Psychogeographic Walking Tours of Toronto by Shawn Micallef (Coach House Books). The Afterword, the National Post's book blog, named Micallef's upcoming book one of their most anticipated for the year.

In anticipation of another new book for 2010, try re-reading an old favourite! Andrew Kaufman's new novel The Waterproof Bible (Random House) will be coming out late February, which gives you plenty of time to re-read (or read for the first time!) All My Friends are Superheroes (Coach House Books).
