BookNet Tech Forum: Thriving together: How independent publishers and booksellers are a perfect match

  • 28 May 2026
  • 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Zoom

The Literary Press Group of Canada is proud to partner with BookNet Canada and the Canadian Independent Booksellers Association (CIBA) to present Thriving Togather: How independent publishers and booksellers are a perfect match.

The interests of independent booksellers and independent publishers align in many ways. In a time where uplifting Canadian storytelling, its authors, and the industry as a whole are top of mind, these two sectors have the opportunity to come together to help each other thrive.

Join us for an opportunity-focused session where Laura Ash (Another Story Bookshop) and Mike Hamm (Halifax Bookmark), as well as independent publishers Elham Ali (ECW Press) and Hilary Ilkay (Biblioasis) will share insights into how they’ve strengthened the connection between both sectors, as well as case studies and strategies that have proven successful in terms of sales boosts, increased discoverability, community engagement, and more. In addition to this, BookNet’s Kalpna Patel will share an overview of the state of the independent bookselling market from a sales data perspective.

LPG is a remote workplace, with employees and members across what is now known as Canada. Our home offices are located in Toronto, on the lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabeg, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat; in Niagara Falls, on the lands of the Haudenosaunee, the Attiwonderonk, the Wenrohronon, and the Mississaugas of the Credit; in Hamilton, on the lands of the Haudenosaunee, the Attiwonderonk, the Mississaugas of the Credit and the Anishinaabeg; and in Kingston, on the lands of the Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Mississauga. We also recognize the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit people across these lands and live and work on them with gratitude.
